BYD Recalls Over 115,000 EVs Over Design Flaws, Battery Safety Risks

BYD recalls over 115,000 vehicles, citing design defects and battery-related safety risks. The issue has affected Tang Series and Yuan Pro vehicles that were produced between 2015 and 2022.

BYD submitted a report to the State Administration for Market Regulation to recall 44,535 vehicles and centers around potential certain component design flaws that may cause abnormal functions in the Tang Series produced between March 2015 and July 2017.

Malfunction affects the drive motor controller; when in use, at some point it can cause the circuit board to corrode, resulting in the failure of pure electric drive mode, posing a safety risk.

They have also recalled over 71,248 Yuan Pro EVs, which have a manufacturing issue affecting battery installation for vehicles made between February 2021 and August 2022. The battery housing can allow passage of water when the car drives through water at high speed; this will cause degradation of insulation performance.

BYD plans on fixing the battery issue by applying a sealant to its housing to prevent further damage and loss of power.

Affected users will be provided with free fixtures at any dealership near them and also provided with a free software update for vehicles affected by the motor issue by changing the discharge method to motor-motor discharge.

BYD will notify affected customers too through registered phone calls, text messages, mail, or the customer service hotline at 4008-303-666, or reach the websites of the State Administration for Market Regulation for more.
